Senior Planner

This is a full time role, with home/office hybrid working and a salary commensurate with experience.

Purpose of the role

  • Support the team in providing first-rate planning advice and client care.
  • Provide a higher level of planning knowledge and application to carry out applicable independent work.
  • Mentor and assist junior members of the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals and pre-application enquiries.
  • Where required, undertake community engagement, committee meetings and public examinations.
  • Research strategy and report on findings to provide planning appraisals of potential sites.
  • Write high-quality reports with sound and well-considered recommendations.
  • Attend site visits and client meetings where needed.
  • Support existing client relationships and develop communication skills.
  • Provide first-class client service
  • Work collaboratively with trusted partners to deliver results for our clients.
  • Maintain CPD on relevant legislation, latest planning laws and key planning decisions.
  • Foster excellent relationships with all stakeholders of the planning process including local authorities.
  • Operate our internal software to assist in internal planning and process.

Experience:

  • Demonstrate developing skills in leading projects and commercial application of planning knowledge.
  • Emerging experience in the planning process and managing client demands from the start of an enquiry to its ultimate conclusion.
  • Ability to demonstrate previous report writing and the making of recommendations on planning projects.
  • Cultivating an appreciation of design and thinking outside the box.
  • Proficient in professional good practice and accuracy.
  • A degree (or equivalent) in Town Planning or relevant environmental discipline.
  • Membership of the RTPI.
  • Significant experience in the UK with a substantial part of that time spent in the private sector.

  • Developed planning skills and an understanding of the planning system that will provide exemplary advice to clients.
  • Ability to communicate and make an impact across all stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management skills, demonstrating the ability to keep to timeframes and maintain accuracy.
  • Adept at report writing, showing a talent for explaining complex issues to a variety of audiences.
  • Positive outlook and at ease as a team player.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure, with deadlines and competing demands.
